Last week, we covered how Ahold Delhaize USA, parent company to grocery store chains Hannaford and Stop & Shop, was the target of a cyberattack. As such, the company took some systems offline, and ran into supply issues at certain locations.

We have an update this week: As of Monday, Hannaford’s website and mobile app are now back up. Hannaford’s online presence was down for roughly a full week, during which time customers were unable to use the website or app to place to-go and delivery orders. That said, the company confirmed it had canceled previous online orders, and that the pharmacy’s phones were still down.

What we don’t know, however, is what actually happened. While we’re aware that Ahold Delhaize USA experienced some sort of “cybersecurity issue,” and that the company reported the incident to law enforcement, few other details exist to say what’s really going on. New Hampshire state attorney general’s office says Ahold Delhaize USA has not disclosed a data breach.

Meanwhile, certain Stop & Shop locations were still reporting issues keeping up inventory as recently as Friday. Again, there aren’t many details as to why, but the ongoing “cybersecurity incident” is disrupting Stop & Shop fresh departments.

It’s a reminder of how cyberattacks can affect all types of businesses. When hackers target a company that owns businesses that serve the public, such as grocery stores, it can affect people’s day-to-day lives.
