Microsoft really wants you to use Copilot. The company’s flagship AI product promises a number of features and functions to help you get your work done, in many of Microsoft’s core applications. That includes Microsoft Edge: Should you choose to use it, simply click the Copilot icon in the Edge toolbar to pull up the bot, and ask it for help with tasks like summarizing an article or writing an email.

But maybe you don’t want to use Copilot. Maybe you’re content reading your own articles, or writing your own emails. It’s easy enough to not use Copilot, but that doesn’t mean Copilot will go away. In fact, whether or not you want it there, Copilot lives in Edge’s toolbar: You’ll still need to look at the icon, no matter how much you ignore it while surfing the web.

That is, until Microsoft’s latest update for Edge. Version 144.0.3719.82 includes bug fixes and features, but, for our purposes, one key update: the ability to disable Copilot in Edge’s toolbar.

This isn’t something you need to dive into Edge’s settings to control yourself, either. To remove Copilot from the toolbar, simply hover your cursor over Copilot’s icon, right-click, then choose Hide Copilot. This option will take you directly to the setting necessary to control the icon’s visibility. If you ever want it back, you can simply head to this same page.

This update also fixed a bug that would cause Edge to crash whenever you uploaded a file from a local folder on your PC.
