Software updates are an important way to keep your tech safe from malicious users. Whenever developers discover new security vulnerabilities, they’ll work on patches to fix them, and include those patches in the next update. Apple just did the same, but included more than 30 in its latest update for iPhone.
The update, iOS 16.4, dropped on Monday, March 27, and included some new features and changes iOS users are bound to notice (namely, 21 new emoji). However, more importantly, the update patches dozens of issues not previously known to us users. As 9to5Mac highlights, one of these security vulnerabilities relates to an accessibility issue that might let bad actors access data about your contacts, while another exploit allows apps to see sensitive data.
While iOS 16.4 includes security updates for newer iPhones, Apple also included security patches for older devices that cannot run iOS 16. The company released iOS 15.7.4 for iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, and iPhone SE. Apple also released software updates with security patches for macOS, tvOS (Apple TV), and watchOS.
To update your iPhone, open Settings, then General > Software Update. From here, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the update on your device.
