The group has made headlines for its high-profile hacks into major tech companies, such as Microsoft, Samsung, Nvidia, Ubisoft, and Okta. While Lapsus$ as a whole wasn’t implicated in a recent breach at EA, at least one member of the group was accused of participating.
Police say the leader of Lapsus$ is a teenager themself, however it isn’t clear if this person was one of the seven arrested.
The teenager’s identity was revealed through a retaliatory action against them: The accused had purchased the website Doxbin, a site to host other people’s personal information. When giving up the website in January, the teenager also leaked the entire data set for Doxbin to Telegram. The Doxbin community was displeased, to say the least, as they released the teenager’s personal information shortly thereafter.
